The history of royal families is littered with scandal, insanity, inbreeding and staggeringly trashy behaviour, so by historical standards they are probably far from the worst. They are definitely among the ghastliest modern monarchies although there is plenty of competition with the Gulf kingdoms, above all Saudi Arabia.

As a student of Millfield in Somerset in the 1970's (albeit a few years post the then Crown Prince) I can assure you it was mixed, rather than male only. Not to say you were wrong about the 'grubby' mags though!
